4. How supportive was Valerie’s relationship with her mother before the shooting? How did it change afterwards? In what ways did the tragedy draw them closer?
In the beginning of the story Val and her mother had a really good and strong relationship. But it started to change when Nick entered Val's life, her mom tried to tell Val he was a bad influence but she ignored her and thus leading to their relationship to start to change. Since Nick and Val started going out Val started to ignore her mom more and more leading up to the shooting. But after the shooting their relationship deteriorated even more to the point that Val never wanted to see her mom again because she made Val get Mental help. But after that Val started to realize that she had been really mean to her mom so their relationship came back together. This all shows me that basically relationships are like friends, here today gone the next. This would not be the case if I was Val, I may have been mad at first but i would have forgiven my mom eventually.
